The Belconnen Community Theatre is a versatile, accessible, space within the Belconnen Community Centre. The theatre is used for performances, screenings, community forums, and corporate presentations and events.
Local performing arts groups, both professional and amateur, utilise the theatre as a rehearsal space and as a venue for performances. Many groups present one night only shows, and the theatre also hosts multi-week runs from Canberran production companies such as Ickle Pickle, Tempo, and Child Players.
The Belconnen Community Theatre is the venue for the BCS Belco Flicks short film festival, which celebrates local film-making talent. Belco Flicks provides an opportunity for local audiences to enjoy local stories, told by local people. In 2017, Belco Flicks will become part of the Canberra Short Film Festival, one of Australia’s oldest and most well-respected short film festivals. BCS also hosts film events in the theatre, providing affordable screenings of movies and documentaries that are of interest to the community.
The Community Theatre is centrally located in the Belconnen Community Centre on Swanson Court, opposite the Bus Interchange. There is a large parking area opposite the Theatre.The theatre (including stage and dressing rooms) is fully accessible with space for wheelchair seating in the front row. Theatre hire is inexpensive, providing wide community access.The theatre is a great venue for family and variety shows, independent theatre, musical performances, cultural celebrations, conferences and presentations, and movie nights. The space can also be hired for rehearsals, recording and filming.
